2024 UKIP Leadership Election

Due to the imminent retirement of Neil Hamilton as Party Leader in May 2024, the Party's National Executive Committee (NEC) have launched the Leadership Election Process.


Three candidates made successful applications:



  • Etheridge, Bill
  • Perry, Lois
  • Waters, Anne Marie

To this end, specifically for this election, the December NEC meeting have amended the Rule Book as follows:


  • CHAPTER O: Leadership Election Rules:
  • O.1: The election and ballot and count will be wholly paper-based.
  • O.2: The Returning Officer shall be Party Chairman Ben Walker.
  • O.3: Timetable etc.
  • To encourage maximum participation, notification of the vacancy will be published on:
  • UKIP.ORG
  • Letter sent to all members.
  • GB News.
  • Any other method the Returning Officer deems appropriate.

  • The non-refundable application fee is £1,500. There are no deposits for this election.
  • Nominations require 10 assentors from within the party, and the assentors may assent to as many candidates as they wish.
  • There are no proposers or seconders for this election.

  • Each candidate may invite up-to two colleagues who are also party members to stand for the Deputy Leader(s) position, in order that the membership will know who the DL(s) are intended to be at the time of the election.
  • (Deputy leadership candidates will also each require 10 assentors, who must be a different 10 from those backing their leadership-mate, so a candidate running with deputies will need at least 20 names on the application form).

  • The candidates will be expected to attend the Feb (if already applied) and April NEC meetings, and all Regional meetings.
  • The candidates will be expected to attend all scheduled husting events in person.

  • O.4: Promotional Literature:
  • In addition to the already specified printed materials,  each candidate will be granted a web-page in the Members' area of UKIP.ORG, where they will be able to make available text, images, videos, documents etc., subject to Returning Officer approval.
  • Candidates' printed PDF literature may also refer to a personal campaign website and social media, as per O.7, subject to Returning Officer approval.

  • O.5: Eligibility:
  • Any valid member as at the close of nominations, see above, may apply, irrespective of the length of their prior membership.
  • The requirements pertaining to resignation from party office etc. if elected remain in force.

  • O.10: Declaration:
  • The results shall be published on this website, and by any other means the Returning Officer sees fit - X, Facebook etc. 

  • Appendix BB: Electronic Voting:
  • Will not apply for this election to aid maximum participation.

  • Appendix CC: Manual Balloting and Counting:
  • CC.1: The Returning Officer has confirmed manual (paper) voting and counting for this election.


  • NB: NEC members:
  • If you apply and win, you will still only have one vote.
  • An NEC vacancy will only be created if you voluntarily decide to resign from your elected NEC place.

To get started, you will need to:

  • Be a paid-up party member - apply here if necessary.
  • Fill out the form below, and
  • Pay the £1,500 candidacy fee.


Once the form is submitted, you will be contacted by:

  • The vetting team regarding websites and social media etc. accounts.
  • The web team regarding materials for your candidacy page (pictures, videos, text etc.)

Tuesday 9th April Online hustings event (Members only) - details TBA.
Tuesday 16th April Online hustings event (Public on Facebook) - details TBA.
Noon, Monday 6th May Deadline for receipt of voting papers.
Monday 13th May Results published s certified PDF on UKIP.ORG


What the NEC expects from the new leader:


  • To work with the NEC to ensure the party’s development and success in operation and elections.
  • To work with the party’s Policy Team with the creation and development of policy.
  • To generate a high level of high-quality material for use across the party’s social media platforms.
  • To generate and maximise donations to the party which will be shared 50/50 with the leader.
