John was born and brought up in Croydon and was educated at Marlborough and the University of Edinburgh where he read physics and economics. He qualified as a chartered accountant and as a management consultant with Price Waterhouse in London before moving on to become finance director for two medium-sized organisations.
As a consultant he spent a year managing the accounts department for an oil company in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and as a line manager he has recruited and worked with staff from many different backgrounds, genders and races.
He joined UKIP in 2014 and stood as their candidate in Southall, West London in 2015 and 2017 and in Old Bexley and Sidcup in 2021. He is married and has four grown-up children.
